The Treatment of Bell’s Palsy with Acupuncture and Herbal Medicines

Bell’s palsy is a disease caused by inflammation of unknown origin affecting the facial nerve resulting in acute paralysis of one side of the face. The condition may cause considerable emotional distress because of its characteristic drooping appearance around the eye and mouth thus adversely affecting self-esteem and life experience.

If the case is not severe, Bell’s Palsy can go away on its own, but these are extemely rare. However, in more severe cases, the chances of it going away on its own are slim to none. Currently, mainstream western medicine has little understanding of the disease and no effective treatment method. Acupuncture is the only effective treatment.

Bell’s palsy is a significantly debilitating condition which can be very slow to improve. Furthermore, that initial decisions made by your physicians regarding drug therapy may greatly influence the prognosis of disease.

The majority of Bell ’s palsy patients first noticed their palsy in the morning which suggests that the onset and development of facial palsy occurs during sleep when circulatory dynamics are reduced.

Acupuncture regulates chi (energy) and blood in the channels in order to remove obstruction and restore facial nerve function. Acupuncture can help to move the blood circulation and energy to the affected site to help restore function, and also has immune enhancing effects, it is a welcome addition to the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis that can increase the potential for a faster and complete recovery.

Taking traditional Chinese medicine on a regular basis through acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicine can significantly improve results and help to resolve the condition.

Acupuncture & Chinese herbal medicine have treated conditions such as Bell’s palsy effectively for thousands of years. You don’t need to understand why and how it works. You just need to remember that acupuncture can provide a natural way to a healthy life.

I had a patient who had Bell’s Palsy for 2 months. He lost balance in his left eye and around the left side of his mouth. He had uncontrollable tears and could not stop drooling. He had to take constant medication. However these were not working. They only made him feel worse. I Along with acupuncture, I prescribed to him some herbal tea. After a couple months of weekly treatments, he face returned to normal and he regained balance.
